A Code Red air quality alert has been issued for Hampton Roads due to wildfire smoke, with the Eastern Shore under Code Purple, as officials warn of health risks.

At hazardous air levels, most people will get irritated eyes, nose and throat; coughing; chest tightness; or shortness of breath.
